VIVIAN, LA - Services for the celebration of the life of Rachel Githens will be held at the Vivian United Methodist Church Monday, January 19th, at 10:30 AM. Officiating will be Dr. Ramonalynn Bethley and Rev. William Nolan, and interment will follow in the Vivian Cemetery The family will host a visitation Sunday, January 18th, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at McGuire Funeral Home in Vivian, LA.

Rachel was born February 5th, 1920, in New Iberia, LA, on the Bayou Teche. At a young age, she and her family moved to Alexandria, and later she met and married Rex L. Githens, Sr., in 1940. After living in Gilliam several years they finally made their home in Vivian, LA where she lived for almost 50 years.

Rachel was a loving mother and homemaker as well as being very active in the Vivian Methodist Church and civic organizations. This included the Pierian Club, Redbud Association, Garden Club, and was an avid bridge and canasta player.

Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, of 40 years, Rex Githens, Sr.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Nolan and husband Rev, William (Wishy) Nolan, her son Rick Githens, and wife, Sandra, grandchildren, Sherri Giddens, and husband, Shawn, Julie Stewart, Lee DuCote and wife Alicia, Matt Githens, Ross Githens, and wife Jennifer, six great-grandchildren, sister, Judy Antee, a special cousin, Virginia, Horn, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at Irving Place Nursing Home as well as St. Joseph's Hospice of Shreveport, Dr. Drexler, Dr. Reilly, and Dr. Srinivasan for their loving care.
